| About the LodeStar Dome
LodeStar’s theater is a SkyVision/DigitalSky venue with a 55-ft (17M) diameter dome tilted 25-degrees forward. There are 150 unidirectional seats on stadium-style risers raked 25-degrees. There are no visual obstructions in the theater (starball, etc.)
The theater uses a 5.1 system in an 11-speaker array. Three speaker clusters (triangles) present the front channels (front left, center, front right) and single speakers present rear left and rear right. The LFE channel is presented with a 4-sub system at the front of the theater.
It’s a great theater in terms of giving every visitor the best possible experience (all seats well away from the springline, seat tilts keep visitors pointed to the apex, etc.)
It’s up to each designer to determine how to best exploit/mitigate the dome’s tilt in defining horizons, motions, and peripheral vision. If you’d like some suggestions, send low rez (~1024x1024) key dome originals to dbeining@nmmnh.state.nm.us
The projector configuration is a standard five springline channel (trapezoid)
and one zenith channel (tetrahedron) system. The house projectors are BarcoGraphics 1209s (see specs at: www.barco.com/####) but we’re hoping to announce some very special projectors for the festival. Keep your eye on the site for more.
The LodeStar Domed Theater & Planetarium employs a large format immersive digital projection system called SkyVision (http://www.skyskan.com/Products/index.html) which covers a 55-ft diameter hemispheric (dome) screen in digital video. The result is a 4,750 square-foot digital canvas that fills audiences' entire field of visionas they lean back in parallel with the 25-degree tilted dome.
